The Alexander Technique was developed in Australia by Frederick Matthias Alexander at the end of the 19th century and since then has helped thousands of people around the world to discover better coordination and balance and with it improved health, wellbeing and freedom from pain.

Pupils of the Alexander Technique learn to become conscious of harmful, habitual tensions throughout the body and the means of releasing them. In the process they often experience the kind of freedom of movement they had as children. This life skill can enable those who learn it to go about their daily activities with greater ease and efficiency and often to cope better with stressful situations and making choices. Those who come to the Technique after chiropractic treatment can be supported to manage the prevention of back and joint pain and the recurrence of debilitating and chronic conditions.

Katrin MacLean completed her three year training to become an Alexander Technique teacher in Berlin where she lived for five years. Having herself been a regular patient at the Yeovil Chiropractic Clinic, she became interested in the Technique as a means of helping prevent her own back and shoulder pain that were the combined result of injury and what Alexander called 'poor use'. In the process she became fascinated by the way that thought and movement are inextricably linked and by the way that this connection, when consciously employed, can allow the body to 'do the right thing' and to expand instead of limit - what we can learn and accomplish.

Katrin is a member of STAT, the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique. She is married with one child.
